Respell
AI-first automation suite acquired by Salesforce Agentforce
About Respell
Respell was an AI-powered automation platform that enabled users to chain LLM prompts together without code to automate business workflows. The tool allowed professionals to build automated workflows (called 'spells') that could handle tasks like web searching, updating spreadsheets, writing documents, and more. Designed for professionals across companies of all sizes, Respell focused on helping users eliminate tedious, repetitive work and focus on high-value activities. The platform powered millions of workflows and featured capabilities like the Research Agent launched in May 2023. However, as of the announcement on January 17, 2024, Respell is shutting down as a standalone product on March 1st, with the team joining Salesforce's Agentforce division to build agents at global scale.
Our Review
Respell represented an ambitious vision for no-code AI automation, successfully powering millions of workflows for diverse companies before its acquisition. The platform's strength lay in its accessibility—enabling non-technical users to chain AI prompts and create sophisticated automation workflows without coding knowledge. Its Research Agent and focus on agentic AI demonstrated forward-thinking product development. However, potential users should be aware that Respell is no longer available as a standalone product following the Salesforce acquisition announced in January 2024. The service officially shut down on March 1st, with customers directed to migrate to Lindy.ai through an exclusive partnership. While the tool showed promise in saving users time on tedious tasks like document writing, spreadsheet updates, and data review, its discontinuation means it's no longer a viable option for new users. The acquisition validates Respell's approach to AI automation, but also highlights the volatility in the AI tools market where promising startups can be absorbed by larger enterprises.
