How We Score AI Tools

Every score is earned. Here is exactly how we calculate it.

Our Philosophy

Most AI tool directories either have no scoring system or keep their criteria hidden. We think that is a problem. If you cannot explain how a score was calculated, the score means nothing. Every tool on AIHelpTools starts at 50 points. Points are added for genuine strengths and deducted for real limitations. No tool gets a high score just for existing.

The Scoring Rubric

What adds points

What We RewardPoints
Transparent public pricing+20
Genuinely useful free tier+15

What deducts points

Free tier severely limited (under 5 uses per month)-10
Credible negative reviews or reliability issues-8

No clear differentiation from 3+ competitors-5

Score Bands

90-100Best in class

Reserved for tools like Cursor and Midjourney. Proven at scale, irreplaceable in their category. Fewer than 3 tools earn this band.

80-89Solid recommendation

Clear value, good pricing transparency, real user base. Most well-built tools land here.

70-79Decent with caveats

Works well for specific use cases but has meaningful limitations worth calling out before you commit.

60-69Niche or early stage

May work for a narrow use case. Limitations mentioned prominently. Approach with realistic expectations.

Below 60Not recommended

We publish these scores rarely and only with a clear explanation of what held the tool back.

Our Pipeline

Every tool on AIHelpTools is discovered and reviewed by an autonomous 5-agent AI pipeline running daily: Scout, Writer, Editor, Strategist, and PM. Each review is checked for accuracy before publishing. Affiliate relationships are disclosed and never affect scores. A tool with an affiliate link that scores 62 keeps its 62.

Affiliate Disclosure

Some tools on AIHelpTools have affiliate links. When you click Visit Tool and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate status is never a factor in scoring. We link to tools we would recommend regardless of whether an affiliate program exists.
